What story elements (character, plot, mood, conflict, theme, etc.) are present in this book to make it "young adult"?  What intrigued you the most about this book?  What will you remember most about this book?

  1. Probably something that helped the book the most was the conflict. This was what carried the story the most because we knew what the goal was, and the conflict didn't get lost as the book progressed. It's the opposite, actually. Most of the story itself simply involved Harry trying to solve the conflict. Another reason why the conflict didn't get lost was because most of the characters that were involved with Harry were involved with the mystery and the conflict and would often remind Harry about the conflict. Another element that helped the book was the mood. In the book, the author tried to portray a dark and gloomy world where everything was out to get you, everything was corrupt, and society had fallen. Jim Butcher does a very good job at relaying the weather and the feelings of the characters. When he does this, nine times out of ten, it is raining or dark, so this helps the mood tremendously. What intrigued me most about the book was the magic system and how in-depth it was while also being quite balanced. This was very nice because it made me feel as if I was learning something, and the book didn't just throw out a bunch of random words, spells, and objects without explaining them. I also like the constant fear of the white council. This really added an aspect of mystery on how he was going to do his job without breaking any rules and dying. What I will remember most about this book is probably the ending. I will remember this because of the sheer amount of magic and darkness that was pumped onto the pages in the span of like three chapters. Compared to the rest of the book the ending was much more action-packed and magic-filled, with a very nice ending that leaves you wanting to read the next book but also content with only reading one.

  2. Harry Dresden is the Main character in Storm Front. He is an grown adult who is also a wizard, living in a "normal" world. The way that Harry acts, thinks, and goes about his life, makes his seem younger and more Intune for a young adult book. The plot of this novel revolves around Harry's investigation of a series of murders that take place in Chicago that have magic connections. Where then Harry finds himself being a victim and in potential danger. The mood of storm front has lots of suspense and mystery, along with a blend of fantasy involving some dark humor. The conflict for Mr. Harry Dresden was the struggle of defeating a very powerful wizard, with the pressure from the "real" cops and investigators. While dealing with the doubt from the people of his own kind. One major theme in the book was the consequences of choices. The reason I think this is becuase throughout this novel, harry had to make tons of difficult choices in terms of whose life he wanted to save or leave out of danger. With each one of his decisions came consequences, which sometimes bit him in the butt and other times they were very beneficial for him. What intrigued me the most in Storm Front was the way the dark magic was being used and how it majorly impacted many lives. Along with the fact that nobody else except Harry was asked or able to be put to the challenge to stop this man. The thing I will most remember about this book will be the ending, the victory for Harry. This book was wrapped up really nicely and I really liked how so many things connected from the beginning of the book into the ending.

  3. In storm front the main character, Harry, is investigating a homicide murder as a wizard. I know that harry is not a young adult but the way the novel is wrote and his character is wrote he seems much younger than he actually is. Harry gets asked to solve a homicide murder in a hotel and at the same time he is also trying to figure out where a missing person is. Throughout the novel Harry is working on figuring this out and realizes that these investigations have a connection. Harry goes through his investigation and has many threats such as killings, demons, and battles to get to the guy that is using his powers to kill people. The mood of the story had many dark areas with fantasy and mystery mixed in with it. The whole story is about Harry finding the guy with using the powers he has because he is a wizard. This book was not something that I would normally read because I am not into wizards and magic, so it was very hard for me to get into the book. Although I did not enjoy the book, I will remember the ending because that was the ending because it was very fast paced and lots of things happened.

  4. Storm Front was a very hard read for me and I would not consider it to be a young adult book. The characters were all older and had jobs that they had to go to. The mood was very dark and mysterious so that is why it was hard to get into and to finish it. I would say that the theme was pretty good, and it had a good overall plot to help bring the two cases together in the end. What intrigued me most about this book was the actual plot of it. I think that if this book was written without magic, I would have liked it more because the magic part really confused me. What I will remember most about this book was the magic because I don’t read a lot of books with magic in them. I think that this book had a lot of good plots to it, but it just wasn’t my favorite book.

  5. The elements in the book Storm Front young adult were first the conflict/mystery, and what I felt was the biggest element was the wizard and magic just because that is not a topic that you usually find in adult targeted books. The book does revolve around an adult man's story, but Harry's humor gives it almost a young adult view. The book follows a man named Harry Dresen who is a wizard living in a normal world. Harry gets called to a crime scene where the police suspect wizard magic was used and ask Harry to solve it. The thing that I will remember the most about the book Strom Front was the magic element of it. I will remember that the most because it is not usually a topic that I choose to read and is out of my comfort zone

  6. Harry Dresden is the main character is the book Storm Front. He is a grown adult man that is a private investigator who is also a wizard and is living in a “normal” human world. The way that Harry acts, thinks, and goes about his life by being a wizard and helping the police with “magic” related murders are how he goes about living his life, and it kind of helps him be a little younger and more interesting for a young adult book. The plot of the novel resolves around Harry’s connection with the murders and how he helps the police investigate who the murderer is. The murders involve magic which he knows and in the city of Chicago. During the investigation he finds himself in danger by being the victim and a suspect when a third person died. The mood of storm front has a lot of suspense by not knowing if he is going to live or die or the murder is along with some fantasy especially with talking about magical scorpions, magical skeleton head named Bob and a magic staff which is a stick. The conflict of the book is the struggle for Harry Dresden, is to defeat a very powerful wizard and having the pressure from the real cops about the murders that Harry is trying to solve. While trying to solve who the powerful wizard is who is trying to kill him, he is also dealing with doubt from the people that he works with and people that he talks with. One major theme in the book that I saw was the multiple choices that Harry had to make and the consequences with his choices. The reason that I think that he had multiple choices to make because throughout the entire novel, Harry had to make difficult decisions on who’s lives to save and what he should do by pursuing the murder investigation. With each one of Harry’s decisions, he had to make sure that he made the correct decisions and if he didn’t it would bite him in the butt later in life by having someone close to him be murdered on his watch. What intrigued me the most about Storm Front is how the missing person turned about the be the person that was murdering people by using the storm and how he became a powerful wizard and wanting to kill Harry and he almost managed multiple times but failed. Harry is the only person to stop the wizard and everyone in Harry’s life tries to stop him or arrest him for being a suspect with a connection to one of the victims. The one thing that I will remember most about this book is that Harry survived the attack from the wizard and that everyone that was attacked by a magical scorpion lived. The ending of the book to me felt a little bit rushed but the book was laid out nicely and how the book was finished.
