What makes this novel a "good" example of a contemporary young adult novel? How does it represent contemporary literature of today?

What story elements (character, plot, mood, conflict, theme, etc.) are present in this book to make it "young adult"? What intrigued you the most about this book? What will you remember most about this book?
This book talks as if it is happening now as Susie gets raped where as this is the world we live in today. Rape is a very hard thing but it is real with something that people deal with today. It also talks about the families feelings with their death of their daughter. This is a horrible thing that everyone deals with in their life and it shows them how they get better and how everything will be ok.
ReplyDeleteThe book The Lovely Bones is a great example of a young adult book. The main character was 14 years old which makes it around the same age as someone who would be reading a book like this. Although not all families go through a child going missing, every family goes through some sort of trauma that they have to overcome. I would say that this book doesn't fully fit the young adult literature theme but it was still a really good book.
ReplyDeleteThe book The Lovely Bone was a good example of young adult literature. It is a good example because first the main character is 14 years old. So readers will be about to relate to some of the things she is going threw. It is also a good example of how people grieve differently. After Susie's death her dad wanted to keep her memory alive and tried his best to find her killer. But Susie's mom didn't want to talk about it, didn't want to go to the memorials and in the end ran away for eight years and didn't talk to her husband or remaining children.

It's a good example because the main character is a 14 years old girl that experienced a trauma and then was murdered which happens in todays world. Readers are able to relate to some of the things that she faced and was going through before she was murdered. The book was a good example on how certain people who grieve in their own ways cope with a loss of their family member. After Susie's death her father kept trying to find the person who killed her by calling the police over little things and wanting to keep on remembering his little girl. Susie's mom was a whole different person when she was murdered, she didn't want to talk about it and didn't even go to the memorials that the neighborhood people did for her family and in the end she ended up running away from her family when she couldn't take it that her little girl wasn't coming home. She never talked to her husband or her two remaining children until her husband had a heart attack which forced her to come home.
