This book was definitely one of those books that was rather slow at the beginning, not a lot was happening and it seemed like the scene of the book was just getting set up. It also was slower since at the beginning since it was just the main characters thoughts and opinions mainly. A lot didn't really happen in the first half-ish of the book while Harry was looking for clues about the murder and the disappearance. In the second half of the book however it speeds up pretty quickly since he was getting closer to find out who had done it and what happened to the missing man and people wanted for him to stop searching so than it got pretty interesting there and was hard to put down. Overall pretty decent book I just wish the beginning was a bit faster.
ReplyDeleteStorm Front by Jim Butcher started off very slow. For me it was really hard to get into and it just couldn't keep my attention. Also in a lot of fantasy books the world building is very intricate and the author usually explains the magic system to make everything come together. But in this novel, it just went straight into the story without any sort of world building so the magic system was really hard to follow for at least the first one hundred pages. But I have read many fantasy books before where this happens so I still had hope for the overall storyline. But, sadly I was disappointed and for me personally the boom never picked up and the book never really got to the point where I couldn't put it down. Don't get me wrong the ending was very high stakes and action packed, but even though it had so much action I never became invested with the characters so it was hard for me to want to find out the end. I liked getting out of my comfort zone of what I normally read and it was a pretty decent book I think it just wasn't for me.
ReplyDeleteThe components that made this book a page turner was probably trying to figure out the killer in this book. This book was a mystery fantasy book. At the beginning of the book two people were murdered and the whole book was trying to figure out the who and the why. While the book continued other people died and clues and other components turned up. so yes this book was a page turner because you really wanted to know what had happened and who was killing these people. This book was also slow at the beginning because the book was a fantasy book so there was a lot of explaining the world and everything magical and fantasy that was in this book so yes the beginning of this book was slow but it did get better after awhile. Also i wouldn't say i struggled to get through it because there was some interesting parts like the demon showing up at Harrys house or the ending when harry found the killer and was confronting him and fighting him. This book was just not my normal gene so the book was a little bit of a struggle to get through but not that bad.
ReplyDeleteThis book was a very hard for me to get into and I never actually really got into it. It took me forever to want to read the book because it was so so so slow for the first 125 pages. After that the action started to build more but never really made me want to keep reading. But also, I do not read books that have this storyline because I am just not very interested in this sort of thing. I think it would have been an ok read for someone that is interested and loves reading this type of story.
ReplyDeleteThe book was a little slow to begin with because I’m not used to reading these types of books. I didn’t know a lot about the characters and how much of a wizard Harry really was. Once I got into the book and started figuring out all of the characters and what they do I started to enjoy the book more. I started liking the book around page 250 because it was picking up and the story just got interesting very fast. I think that the last 50 pages was a page turner because Harry was figuring out who was trying to kill him. In the end everything connected with each other and that always helps me go back and see what I missed in the beginning. I think this book was very slow at the beginning but I do like how the ending was laid out.
ReplyDeleteThe elements in the book Storm Front that made parts of the book a page turner was the murder mystery. I did think this book was kind of slow especially in the beginning and I found at some point I had a hard time focusing. I may have been because I am not big on fantasy books, but it could have been that at some points I was confused. I did not think this was a bad read at all. I did like the murder mystery plot, but I probably wouldn’t be a book I would read again.
ReplyDeleteStorm Front by Jim Butcher started off very slow and for me it was very difficult for me to get into and to keep my attention and it was hard for me to even pick it up to read it. The components to make a book a page-turner because it needs to be interesting for the readers to continue to read but to me Storm Front is not a page-turner because I lost interest in what was going on in the book. The components that make Storm Front a page-turner for some people that are interested and fantasy is that the book has to have an interesting plot and conflict. The beginning of the book is about Harry Dresden who is a wizard and a private investigator, and he gets called to a crime scene to help the police officers understand who killed two people and ripped out their hearts. The entirely of the book is finding out who killed the people and who has that kind of power to do so and the reasons behind the killing. While the book continued one more person died, and more reasons and answers started appearing on who the killer was and how they gained all the power that was able to kill three people and trying to kill Harry. More action started happening in the book, which could result in a page-turner, but it never interested me to continuing to read but I decided to keep reading to see if I was right on who the dangerous wizard was. The beginning of the book was extremely slow, putting me to sleep and not wanting to pick it up and read it in my free time made me not want to read it but I powered through the book and was able to finish it. The ending of the book is somewhat all connected back to the beginning by it explaining why Harry decides to work by himself and why he works with the police to help with solving murders. This book is not a book that I would pick up when wanting to read on my own time but if someone was interested in fantasy, wizards, and magic than it would be a good choice for them me but me personally I would not pick up this book. This is a kind of book that I would not want to read again but I am glad that I read the book and being able to read something that is outside of my comfort zone.
