What makes this novel a "good" example of a contemporary young adult novel?  How does it represent contemporary literature of today?

Comments

  1. I think the main reason this book is a good example of a contemporary young adult novel is becuase of the main character Harry. Harry is a young adult who many of us can relate to. He may not be the most relatable from the wizard side of things, but he is faced with many personal struggles and the pressure of deciding what to do with the stakes of others lives on the line. As many people in our world have to do the same and are faced with daily dilemmas of their own. I think the range of characters, from the wizard and demons to the cops, wives, and investigators, shows this book aims to be very diverse and inclusive with all these viewpoints. Which is a big supporting factor of contemporary literature of today.

  2. I think what makes this book a good example of contemporary young adult lit is the romance aspect of it. This is because many modern books that people read almost always have some sort of romance aspect to them. By doing this, the book aligns well with other modern books. The second reason is that it takes place in the modern day and in a very relatable area, such as Chicago or cities in general. This allows people to connect it to their own lives, resulting in more people reading it and liking it. Something else that makes this book relatable is the ups and downs of his work. Instead of always having something to do, he has some points where he has nothing to do and other parts where he is overwhelmed. I think this part of the book makes it a lot more relatable. so, I think that this book is an okay example of contemporary young adult lit

  3. This book is a good representation of young adult literature because of the fact that the main character Harry Dresden is a young adult and he faces many young adult problems. Throughout the story it talks about the many struggles of being a young adult. Including, paying rent, going on dates, getting in many fights, etc. It also talks about many of the young adults struggles that he has about being a wizard. Like, people don't believe him, or they think he is weird or crazy just because he id different. I think many people can relate to that aspect of Harry, because they might be different and they feel left out or treated poorly because of it. This book is contemporary because of the setting the way he talks about everything. This book is set in Chicago and it talks about the many new and modern things they have in that city. Including, skyscrapers, fancy limos, telephones and more.

  4. I think that Storm Front is a good contemporary young adult literature book, but it was not a great read for me at least. I believe that many people could relate to Harry with all the problems he faced and how he got through them. Also, when you make a choice there can be good and bad consequences no matter what, but it is how you move forward from that while also following the law. In storm front the law was based on the seven rules of wizards. Although it does connect on that side, I do not think you would consider wizards as that category but there are some aspects. I also believe that the community that Jim Butcher created in this novel is a very inclusive book for readers.

I think that the book Storm Front is a good example of young adult literature. I think it is a good example because the main character Harry faced a lot of real-world problems that many young adults are going through. I also think that the book also had good examples of how your choices have consequences. Throughout the book sometimes Harry would make bad desions and it would come bad to haunt him and other times it all worked out and I think that is something that is very relatable for young adults.

  6. This book had some components to make it a good contemporary young adult literature book because of how it was written. This book was written for teens that enjoy magic. I don't think someone that is in their late 20’s would pick up this book. This book represents getting over hardships and although no one can relate to Storm Front, it still has an underlying message that everyone can relate to. I would say that there are better books out there for good examples of this genre, but this book still had a good meaning to it. I enjoyed reading it but if you don’t enjoy reading this type of genre, I just don’t think you would want this book.

  7. I think that the main reason that this book is considered of a contemporary young adult novel is the main character Harry, who is a young adult who some people can relate to. He may not be so relatable because of the wizard side of him, but he is faced with many personal struggles and peer pressure by the police officers that he works with and him deciding what to do with the lives of other people in his hands and what is the right decision that he should make. Many people in our world today have to deal with the same and are faced with the same daily problems that Harry had to struggle with. I think from the range of different characters in this boo, from wizards, demons, to cops, wives, and investigators, shows how the book shows how all of them are connected somehow in the book. This book is considered a contemporary young adult novel because of the romance side of the book as well because that is what most of the books that teenagers read these days and how the setting is based in a city which is Chicago and the book explains what Chicago is like in today’s world.
