Speak for me was a struggle to get through the entire book. It was very slow and boring and was just like reading about a girl going to high school. No interesting twists/turns happened or really anything exiting until the last 5 pages.
ReplyDeleteSpeak was very slow especially in the beginning, she was just talking about her going to school. So it never really was a page turner until the very end, but then I really was happy for Melinda and wanted to just finish the book. I would say that It was a page turner only during the last couple pages.
ReplyDeleteSpeak was a pretty slow read for me because I felt as though it was just like a day in the life of Melinda. I also thought not a lot was happening throughout the story. There was one point in the book where I was pretty intrigued and that was at the end of the book. I wanted to keep reading until the end, because I was interested in what was going to happen once Melinda started to figure out who she was and speaking up for herself.
ReplyDeleteSpeak was not necessarily a slow read for me because I did finish it pretty fast but the beginning was really hard to get into. The reason this book was not a page turner is because it just went through her life every day, nothing happened every day and I don't think the author should have dragged on the book for that long. I did like how it was by semesters and you could see her grade go down each semester. I thought that was a good thing to add to the book. I enjoyed reading the last couple of pages because it got pretty interesting but I wish I felt that same way through the whole book.
ReplyDeleteWhat makes a book be a page turner is when it just has that wow factor where you never know what is going to happen next. I do not think that Shout was a page turner. It was not a bad book in the slightest, just a slower book and with it being in poem form sometimes it just left be a little confused. I did like that you got background on the author like how she grew up and her families vibe. I felt it made the story a little more clear
ReplyDeleteThe book Speak was extremely difficult for me to get through because it difficult for me to get through the entire book because it was a slow read and it only talked about her going through her freshman year from start to finish. This book was not a page-turner for me until the end of the book. When I finished the book, I was happy with Melinda for speaking out on what happened to her that night of the party but I personally wanted to just finish the book. I would say that this book is a page turner but only for the last couple of chapters.
ReplyDeleteI feel like speak was definitely not a page turner. All though it was a short book it felt rather repetitive at times talking about the same things over and over again. The overall book was pretty good don't get me wrong, I just wish there was a little more context at the beginning cause it was kind of confusing when it was talking about Mel and how she didn't have any friends cause of a party. I wish they got into that more in depth and explained it earlier on in the book what had happened. At the end it definitely got more interesting and more of a page turner after she had finally speaking up for herself and revealed that she had been raped. I think if this book didn't focus mainly on her classes in high school it would be more of a page turner too me. This book last couple chapters was a page turner though
ReplyDeleteThis book wasn't a page turner. For most of the book Melinda was just talking about her daily life. It got kind of boring and didn't feel necessary. Towards the end it picked up a bit and got more interesting, but it wasn't to the point where I couldn't put it down.
