Magnolia Parks Blog 4

What story elements (character, plot, mood, conflict, theme, etc.) are present in this book to make it "young adult"?  What intrigued you the most about this book?  What will you remember most about this book?

  1. I believe that everything in Magnolia Parks is young adult. The entire storyline is a bunch of 20 year old's deal with love and heart break. This is a very common situation for young adults trying to figure out what they want to do with their life and if their is someone they love that they would like to spend the rest of their life with. BJ and Magnolia through out the entire novel go through hardships of their relationships as BJ keeps hurting Parks by cheating on her. The thing that intrigued me the most about this book was the ending because through out the novel BJ and Parks where together and then not and it just kept repeating but they finally made up for real and then went to dinner. But just then Parks figures out the when BJ cheated on her when they where younger it was with her best friend Pali and Parks went crazy.

  2. I consider Magnolia Parks a young adult novel because of all the different aspects of the book. The characters started dating in high school and have an on an off relationship until they were 23. Their ages are exactly what a young adult book should be, and you can see all of the characters grow throughout the book. The plot of the book was very shocking, and I did not connect anything until the author explained what happened. Those kinds of books really help me stay intrigued until the last minute. Magnolia and BJ both have grown throughout the book and is a book where a lot of people could connect with. I do think that this book was really well written and should be considered a good young adult book.

  3. The book Magnolia parks is overall a great example of young adult. The author really did a good job of showing growth in all of the characters through out the book. The ages of all the characters in the book made in all young adult also. The author only really gave backstory on the young characters in the book. I did find in the beginning that the amount of characters in the book could make it confusing but once you get into the book it is easier to understand. I did like how the chapters switched from Magnolia and BJ's perspectives. I thought it really gave two sides to the story and a better understand on why that character may have done something. I felt it also made it so there was no bad guy in the story because when you have two perspectives you can pick who you like or who you think was in the wrong.

  4. Magnolia Parks is the kind of book that is young adult. Between all the relationships and love it’s what young adult face when they have a realtionship but are still in love with the ex. The character ages are exactly what a young adult book is about and can somewhat see all the characters change through the book but some of them they don’t change at all. My opinion is there was no plot. I couldn’t figure out what the plot of the book was and to me it was just a girl that was so full of herself and thought the BJ was only for her to date and no one else can date him, to me this is not a plot. The author made me hate all the characters expect for Tom because he was the only character that was not full of themselves and actually cares and wants a relationship with Magnolia but never got the relationship because she goes crawling back to BJ and gets hurt all over again. Full on romance book, for me is really hard to keep on reading because it's the same thing in every chapter over and over again. Magnolia and BJ have not grown throughout this book because they learn that forgiving each other even if they don’t deserve their forgiveness means that they can continue sleeping with more girls and continue running back to you ex instead of letting them go and start a new relationship with a guy that actually cares about you and who wants to be with you. I don’t think this book was well written because it was the same thing in every chapter and is considered a young adult book because it’s about young adults and their terrible relationships.
